Table of Grace 8/28/2011

“THE TABLE OF GRACE” (2 Sam. 9)


Take a minute to view the cry out to jesus video
  1.  READ 2 SAMUEL 9
  2. MAYBE YOU CAN RELATE TO MEPHIBOSHETH.
    1. Bad breaks.
      1. Crippled early on.
      2. Daniel, the dog food, and the drawing.
    2. Bad name.
      1. Has to do with shame.
      2. Whatʼs it like to be different? Itʼs not easy.
      3. Youʼve done wrong.
    3. Bad place.
      1. Lived in “Lo Debar.”
      2. Means “No Word.”
      3. Have you ever just wanted someone to say something that would
        help?
    4. Bad feeling.
      1. Afraid of King David.
      2. Do you live in fear?
  3. SOMETHING PRETTY AMAZING HAPPENS.
    1. The King heʼs so afraid of, seeks him out.
      1. Heʼs summoned to see the King.
      2. The king says, “Donʼt be afraid.”
      3. Iʼm going to restore Saulʼs land to you, and you will eat at my table.”
    2. Verse 11: “So Mephibosheth ate at Davidʼs table like one of the kingʼs sons.”
    3. Verse 13: “And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the kingʼs table; he was lame in both feet.”
  4. Can you imagine the scene.
    1. Itʼs dinner time at the palace.
    2. David. Solomon. Absalom. Tamar.
    3. Clunking of crutches.
    4. The King has taken him in!!!
    5. And I like to imagine, that he took the tablecloth, and covered
      Mephiboshethʼs crippled feet with it.
  5. ANOTHER TABLE SCENE. 
  1. Another King . . . Jesus!
  2. Perfect. Holy. Love.
  3. He is about to shed his body
  4. Around his table: (1) Matthew. (2) Simon the Zealot. (3) Peter. (4)
    James and John. (5) Judas.
  1. Broken, messed up people. And he still calls them to his table!
  2. 1 John 4:10 - Christ - propitiation.
  3. Whatʼs that mean? A covering!
  1. CAN I TELL YOU THE DIFFERENCE IN THE TABLE OF DAVID AND THE TABLE OF JESUS?
    1. Davidʼs table is gone. David is gone. Mephibosheth is gone.
    2. Jesusʼ table is eternal, because heʼs eternal.
    3. No matter where youʼve been, or what youʼve done, Jesus still has a table
      of grace prepared for you.
    4. He still saves people from their sins.

  3. IF YOUʼRE WONDERING, WILL JESUS ACCEPT YOU WITH ALL YOUR BAGGAGE, THE ANSWER IS YES! JESUS HAS A “YES” LOOK ON HIS FACE.
    1. Heʼll take you in, no questions asked.
    2. Your bad breaks, your bad things youʼve done, the bad places youʼve
      been, the bad feelings you have, Jesus will take them all away.
    3. All you have to do is come to the table, turn from your sins, and make Him
      the king of your life.
    4. We call that grace!
      1. Man named John Newton.
      2. Certainly know his song, “Amazing Grace.”
      3. Slave-trader.
      4. Found God had a table of grace, even for him.
      5. No matter what youʼve done, no matter what has been done to you,
        God has a table of grace for you today.
  4. COUPLE OF GROUPS OF PEOPLE I WANT TO TALK TO.
    1. Never been to Godʼs table of grace.
    2. Youʼve been to the table, but youʼve walked away.
  1. COME TO THE TABLE! EXPERIENCE THE GRACE OF GOD!
